A month that wasn't

The adage suggests that time flies when one is having fun. And while that may indeed be accurate, it is less scientifically true than simply time flies when you're busy.

November Rain is longer than the total amount of free time I experienced during the 11th month of 2014.

It is annually one of my two busiest months of the year -- right there with January for fewest hours slept and most emails responded to -- but the current version has been irregular.

To wit: Boston Latin qualifying for the MIAA tournament for the first time in 34ish years served as an incredible accomplishment, and one five years in the making since I took over the program in 2010. The heartbreaking death of Charlie challenged my focus -- my closest companion no longer by my side. A new role working as Director of Communications for U.S. Youth Futsal filled the nonexistent gaps in my schedule with additional tasks. Two of the most important women in my life were determined to have cysts attached to their ovaries, and optimistic surgeries are planned. The adoption of a young pup has invigorated the home and heart, yet required irregular attention and effort.

Futsal season started, Thanksgiving happened and I somehow managed to watch a couple episodes of Homeland.

Although there was at times great enjoyment, my November flew by not because of merriment but because I had nary a minute nor moment to sit quietly. It was perhaps one of the busiest months of my entire life.

I am very glad to turn the page and embark on A Long December.
